Carolyn Finnell

Carolyn lives in Mandeville, LA with her husband, Terry. Their charming (translation small and closetless) craftman style home is just two blocks from the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Carolyn studied Fine Art at Benedictine College and UNO. Though she spent many years as a graphic designer/art director/illustrator, working in advertising and winning Addy Awards, she always intended to return to painting “one of these days”. But after Hurricane Katrina, when her home came within inches of flooding and the roof was miraculously missed by the six trees that came down around it, she began to wonder why she was waiting.

Carolyn now shows her work at Watson Gallery in Atlanta, GA and Jack Meyer Gallery in Houston, TX.

Describing her work Carolyn says: “Most of my still life works are intimate paintings of everyday subject matter favoring bold, saturated color, and simplicity over complexity in composition. I’m always looking for the ways the subjects relate to each other, and how that is a metaphor for our human relationships. I aim for an exuberant articulation of the ordinary. Whimsy and humor have a place in my art, particularly in the titles. Since early childhood I have been a lover of books and omnivorous consumer of literature, consequently, I have a lifetime’s accumulation of literary references and bad puns jousting for expression.”

Carolyn is the founder, designer and administrator of Daily Painter Originals. She created it because, as she says, “There was a crying need for another high quality Daily Painter site on the web. Somebody had to do it, why not me.”
