Julie Davis
Julie Davis is a native of West Texas, with a background in law and journalism. Her art career began with a chance encounter with an inspiring Austin artist, after which Julie determined to learn the craft of oil painting--a talent she had admired in others, but left undeveloped in favor of more "practical" pursuits. She studied for three years at the Austin Museum of Art and with various artists around the country, and now paints full time. Julie draws great inspiration from the Texas landscape in and around Austin and in the surrounding Hill Country. A plein air painter, she says, "Creating something beautiful on canvas is a personal reward. It requires careful observation of light and subject matter, problem solving, solid drawing, and a familiarity with my medium." Julie values painting as a daily exercise, and creates a new painting most days. Julie is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Oil Painter's Society, the American Impressionist's Society, and Plein Air Austin. She lives in Austin with her husband and three daughters. Her work is available through the Windrush Gallery in Sedona, Arizona, and through her website and blog. |
