Art has been a big part of my life for as far back as I can remember. I studied art at California State University Fullerton, then veered off into Elementary Education after having my own children. While teaching for sixteen years and raising my family, I put all my creative energies into my classroom and being a mom. A few years ago I came to the proverbial fork in the road, and began painting again. What a joy! I feel very blessed ...I can paint nearly every day. I painted in watercolor exclusively for about five years, then returned to oil after a short 30 year break. Now I enjoy both for their unique properties. Most of my daily paintings are in oil, but I teach adult watercolor classes in my home studio. Whatever the media, I just love to paint! In August of 2009 I began painting small to develop my skill in oils quickly. In February of 2010 I launched my blog. I've finished over 200 paintings in the past year and have no intention to stop! My subject matter includes just about everything. If it doesn't move, I'll paint it! Still life is my current favorite. I enjoy orchestrating the elements of placement, color and light. It's exciting to take everyday objects and create a painting with more beauty and poetry than the objects themselves. My high school and college art training has served me well. More recently I have attended classes and workshops with several accomplished artists: Milford Zornes, Chris Van Winkle, Ratindra Das, Elin Pendleton, Greg La Rock, Carol Marine and Joseph Todorovitch. Along this art journey I've entered several local shows and won numerous awards. These include four First Place awards in watercolor, a Third Place in Plein Air and most recently a Second Place in oils. This journey is such that I'll never "arrive", but to say I enjoy the travel is an understatement. Growth is evident, and I feel blessed to be a painter. My future hopes include increased sales, larger paintings, and gallery representation. My motto is "Paint a lot of paintings, and some of them will be good." I live in Southern California with my nerdy accountant husband, Jeff, and my fluffy little studio dog, Sandy. We have three grown children and five grandchildren. Thank you for visiting and for your interest in my work. |
